What we signed with Oloololo

The Oloololo Escarpment is not technically inside any conservancy. It sits west of the Mara River, above the Triangle, and the land is held by a collection of Maasai group-ranches. We have been landing on the lower slopes for eight years under an informal agreement. That agreement was due for a review.

In September 2025, after six months of meetings in Aitong, we signed a formal two-year agreement with the Oloololo group-ranches. The agreement doubles our per-landing fee and creates a seasonal ranger post on the escarpment, jointly funded.

What we sign matters. What we show up for matters more.

The per-landing fee is not the point. The point is the ranger post, which allows year-round monitoring of a stretch of the escarpment that has never been formally protected, and which sits on a key elephant corridor.
